Saranda vs Ksamil: Where Should You Stay in 2026?
Saranda and Ksamil are the two big names on the Albanian Riviera, and they sit just 20 minutes apart. So which one should you base yourself in? Here is an honest, local comparison.
Saranda: the lively base
Saranda is a proper town — a long seafront promenade, restaurants, bars, supermarkets, a ferry to Corfu and easy transport links. If you want nightlife, choice and convenience, and you plan to explore the wider region, Saranda is the smart base.
Ksamil: the beach paradise
Ksamil is smaller and all about the beaches — white pebbles, shallow turquoise water and little islands you can swim to. It is quieter and more resort-like, ideal if your holiday is mostly about sun, sea and slow days.
Beaches
Ksamil wins for classic beach days, but it gets very busy in July and August. Saranda has its own town beaches plus quick access to quieter coves along the coast — many of them hidden and reachable only off-road.

Nightlife and food
Saranda has the clear edge for evenings out, with far more restaurants and bars. Ksamil has excellent beach clubs and seafood, but things wind down earlier.
Prices
Ksamil’s beachfront accommodation can be pricier in peak season, while Saranda offers a wider range at every budget. Eating and shopping are generally cheaper and more varied in Saranda too.
Day trips and things to do
From Saranda you can easily reach Butrint, the Blue Eye, Lëkurësi Castle and Gjirokastër — and it is the natural launch point for an off-road ATV tour into the mountains and hidden beaches. Ksamil is more about staying put and enjoying the water.
The verdict
For most travellers, stay in Saranda and day-trip to Ksamil. You get the nightlife, choice and easy access to everything, with Ksamil’s beaches just a short hop away. If you only want beach and quiet, Ksamil is lovely — just book early in summer.
Whichever you choose, the best of the Riviera is inland and off the main road. A guided quad tour is the fastest way to see the parts most visitors miss.
